Tungsten carbide is a tungsten-carbon compound that contains an equal
number of carbon and tungsten atoms. It is a fine, gray-black powder
that is pressed into various shapes for use in applications. According
to "Handbook of Chemical Vapor Deposition," tungsten carbide is prepared
by the reaction of carbon with tungsten metal at temperatures between
1,400 Celsius to 2000 Celsius. Tungsten carbide powder comes in many
shapes, particle sizes, microstructures and chemical compositions,
including fine tungsten monocarbide powder and macrocrystalline
tungsten.
